    BIODEGRADABLE AND NON BIODEGRADABLE PITS
The growing mounds of garbage, landfills, open littering; non-segregation of waste is becoming a big concern. This attitudinal change should be sown early among students. In a small way, a group of 40 ‘eco-sensitive’ members of Grade XI and XII put their heads together to collect ‘green waste’ like food waste, spoilt veggies. All 40 of them pooled it together. Initially it was difficult but once they began it became a ‘good habit’. The School permitted them to use the existing Compost Pit to carry out the Project. All the decomposable waste was collected for more than two weeks. The Students also took professional help from the School conservancy staff to speeding up the work. The team succeeded in collecting approximately 50 kg of biodegradable waste to keep the project going. The non-biodegradable wastes are kept in separate pit and once the pit is filled it is planned to dispose of the same through municipality professionals of Jorhat.
